The Sambatra circumcision in Mananjary

In the Antambahoaka in the south-eastern part of Madagascar, specifically in Mananjary, this cultural event called « Sambatra » celebrated 4 weeks and is held every 7 years. The sambatra ceremony consists of gathering hundreds of little boys for the collective circumcision, a passage to become brave and to integrate in the community of men. They shed no tears so as not to disappoint or offend the gods.
